Marching fracture/Stress fracture

Marching fracture/Stress fracture

Marching fracture or stress fracture in the foot as it is also called is a fracture in one of the metatarsal bones in the foot. Usually in the second metatarsal bone next to the big toe. These injuries occur suddenly and can come from hard training and strain for an extended period of time. Marching fracture is most common in people who exercise a lot or suffer from osteoporosis.

Symptoms of marching fracture are pain in the forefoot when walking and increased pain during exercise. At an early stage, the pain often comes and goes. Sometimes the foot also swells up and you can feel pain at rest.

THIS IS HOW THE TREATMENT GOES

The treatment for marching fracture is that we need to prevent a relapse. In the acute phase, the foot must be relieved so that healing goes as quickly as possible. To avoid relapse, you must walk correctly over the foot, so that the load comes on the structures that are created to receive the load.

Treatment step by step

  • First we go through the cause of the problem, we look at the posture of the foot.
  • Then strength and mobility tests are performed on the feet.
  • We treat the joints that do not move as they should.
  • Then we have a basis on how we should treat your feet.
  • For marching fracture, the right joints must be treated so that the load gets where it should. It is usually the base of the big toe that does not bend during the load that makes you go wrong over the foot. You can often see under the foot that you get calluses under the toe that is injured.
  • The treatment is done with a device called StretchPower. With the help of a bar, we expose the lower leg to a pressure so that the ankle is bent, mobility is increased and the error is corrected. Before the treatment begins, we put it in the right position in StretchPower so that you get the desired effect on the treatment.
  • After the treatment, we go through how you walk and use your step, this basically always needs to be corrected so that you start using your feet in the right way and bring out the function of the foot when you walk.
